The LGBTQIA logo honors the historical LGBT civil rights movement (and the diversity of the queer community) by employing six circles of various sizes, each a color of the rainbow. These circles intersect each other to represent the intersecting identities and groups within the greater LGBT community, showing that each individual shares common attributes and experiences with others. The illustrative movement of the circles and their composition of the title “LGBTQIA” represent the continued growth and evolution of the organization reflected in the broader community. Equality of descriptors for individuals in the community — lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, allies — is shown graphically by using corresponding letters of equal size and weight.
